A fantastic day was had by all when the SWASAG team attended the Armed Forces Day 2018 celebrations at Plymouth Hoe back in June.
It was an extra special day for us here at SWASAG as it was the first ever event that we’ve attended since we launched our charity earlier this year.
The event took place on a sunny Saturday giving everyone a wonderful opportunity to come along and show their support for the dedicated men and women who make up our Armed Forces community – from the troops that are currently serving to reservists, veterans, cadets and their families.
The day was jam-packed from start to finish with family fun and entertainment including the chance to get up close and personal to military vehicles and equipment, the Royal Navy Dive Tank, weapons displays, three static helicopters, parades, military bands, live music and an incredible arena programme.
Later in the day, there was a thrilling two-hour air display with aircraft including a Spitfire, taking to the blue skies above Plymouth Sound to entertain the spectators as well as a dramatic aerobatic show.
There was also a search and rescue display with Bristow HM Coastguard, Newquay SAR Base, Sikorsky S92 helicopter and the Plymouth lifeboat all working together.
The British Army’s Red Devils closed the show with a spectacular parachute display, landing in the water.
We were thrilled to have the opportunity to have a SWASAG stand in the Veterans’ Village, in the great company of over 70 other charities.
